Horary (Prashna) astrology
No birth time needed. Bring one sincere question, and the chart of that very moment gives the answer. This is the method R P Pandey is best known for.

Horary (Prashna) astrology answers one specific question from a chart cast for the exact moment you ask it — no birth date, time or place needed. In KP horary, the question is given a number from 1 to 249, which fixes the ascendant and lets the sub-lord method give a clear yes or no, and the likely timing.
How Prashna answers without a birth chart
Most people think astrology needs your exact date, time and place of birth. For a full life reading, it does. But Prashna — horary astrology — needs none of that. A chart is cast for the moment a genuine question is asked, and the answer is read from it.
In the KP method, the querent chooses a number between 1 and 249. Each number corresponds to one of KP’s 249 sub-divisions and sets the ascendant of the question chart. From there, the cusp that rules the matter, its sub-lord, and the ruling planets of the moment are judged together — the same precision KP is known for, with no birth time at all.
This is why R P Pandey turned to Prashna. As he often explains, most people do not know their correct birth time — so for a clear answer it is wiser to use the Prashna Kundli than the Janam Kundli. For a step-by-step explanation, read What is horary (Prashna) astrology?
How Prashna reads a real question
Each shows the house and cusp Prashna reads for that matter. They illustrate the method — the chart of your moment decides the actual answer and window.
Will I get this job?
6th / 10th / 11thEmployment is judged from the 6th (service), 10th (position) and 11th (fulfilment of the wish). If the ruling planets and cuspal sub-lords connect these houses, the answer is yes, and the timing follows the significators' dasha.
Will this marriage proposal work out?
7th cuspThe 7th cusp sub-lord is read. Signifying 2, 7 or 11 promises the union; leaning to 6 or 10 warns of obstruction. The chart of the moment fixes the likely window.
Will my lost item or payment come back?
2nd & 11thRecovery is seen through the 2nd (return of one's own) and 11th (its coming back). When these are favourably linked and not cut by the 8th or 12th, return is indicated — often with a likely time.
Should I go ahead with this deal now?
moment chartThe chart of the instant you ask is judged as a whole — the querent's houses versus the matter's houses — to show whether the timing favours you, and whether to act or wait.
What happens in a Prashna reading
Four steps, from your question to a clear answer:
- 1
Bring one sincere question. Think of the one thing truly troubling you. No birth date, time or place is needed — only a clear, honest question. In KP horary you may also give a number from 1 to 249.
- 2
The chart of that moment is cast. Mr. Pandey casts a chart for the exact moment you ask (or from your 1–249 number), fixing the ascendant and the cusps for your question.
- 3
It is judged by the KP sub-lord. The cusp that rules your matter, its sub-lord, the significators and the ruling planets of the moment are read together to reach a firm verdict.
- 4
You get a clear answer and timing. You receive a direct yes/no, the likely window, and — where helpful — a simple remedy (upay). The reasoning is shown, never hidden.
Questions horary is best for
Prashna works best with one clear, sincere question that truly matters — such as:
It is not for idle curiosity or testing. It works when the question is real and asked with sincere intent — one question at a time, which is the source of its accuracy.

Horary astrology — common questions
Horary, or Prashna, answers one specific question from a chart cast for the exact moment you sincerely ask it — not from your birth chart. The relevant house cusp and its KP sub-lord are read to give a clear yes or no and the likely timing.
No — this is Prashna's biggest advantage. Many people do not know their exact birth time. A Prashna reading needs only one clear, sincere question; the chart is built from the moment of asking, so no birth date, time or place is required.
In KP horary, the querent picks a number from 1 to 249. Each number maps to one of KP's 249 sub-divisions and fixes the ascendant (lagna) of the question chart. This is what lets KP judge a horary question by the sub-lord method with precision, even without a birth time.
Prashna is valued for sharpness because it answers one focused question, cast for the precise moment of asking and judged by the sub-lord. Nothing dilutes the question. As with all astrology, it depends on the question being real and sincerely asked — it is not for idle testing, and it is guidance, not a guarantee.
Prashna answers one question at a time — that focus is the source of its accuracy. If you have several matters, each is taken as its own question, and Mr. Pandey will tell you which to prioritise.
Use a Janam (birth) Kundli for a full life reading when you know your accurate birth time. Use Prashna when your birth time is unknown or uncertain, or when you have one pressing decision and want a direct, timed answer. Mr. Pandey is best known for Prashna for exactly this reason.
