Kundli Milan (Gun Milan) matches two horoscopes before marriage on the Ashtakoot system — 36 gunas across 8 kootas — together with Manglik (Mangal Dosha) and the strength of the 7th house. A score of 18 or more out of 36 is traditionally considered workable — but the doshas, their cancellations and the timing matter more than the number alone.

The 36 gunas: the 8 kootas

The Ashtakoot (“eight-fold”) method scores compatibility on eight factors, from each person’s Moon nakshatra and rashi, adding up to 36:

KootaMax pointsWhat it checks
Varna1Ego & spiritual compatibility
Vashya2Mutual attraction & influence
Tara (Dina)3Health & well-being
Yoni4Temperament & intimacy
Graha Maitri5Friendship of the sign lords
Gana6Nature — Dev, Manushya, Rakshasa
Bhakoot7Love, family & prosperity
Nadi8Health & progeny
Total36

Nadi (8 points) and Bhakoot (7 points) carry the most weight — which is why a careful astrologer also checks their classical exceptions and cancellations before drawing any conclusion.

Why the score is only the start

A guna total is a useful summary, not a verdict. Many happy, lasting marriages have modest scores, and a high score alone does not guarantee harmony. So Mr. Pandey never reads Kundli Milan by fear or by the number alone.

He weighs the real factors: whether a Nadi or Bhakoot dosha has a valid cancellation, the Manglik status of both charts, and — in KP — the 7th cuspal sub-lord and the dasha, which show whether marriage is promised and the likely time. Where there is a genuine concern, he explains it plainly and suggests a simple, dignified remedy — never alarm.

What happens in a matching

Four steps, from the two birth charts to a clear conclusion:

  1. 1

Share both birth details. Send the date, exact time and place of birth for both the prospective bride and groom. Accurate times matter, because the 7th house and its sub-lord are time-sensitive.

  2. 2

Both charts are matched. The two horoscopes are matched on the 36-guna Ashtakoot system, the Nadi and Bhakoot position, and the Manglik status of each partner.

  3. 3

The 7th house is read in KP. Beyond the score, Mr. Pandey reads the 7th cuspal sub-lord and the significators — the KP view of whether the marriage is promised and harmonious.

  4. 4

You get an honest conclusion. You receive a clear, plain-language conclusion — the strengths, any genuine concern with its remedy, and the likely timing — so the family can decide with a calm mind.

Questions

Kundli Milan — common questions

Kundli Milan, or Gun Milan, is the matching of two horoscopes before marriage. In the Ashtakoot system, compatibility is scored out of 36 gunas across eight kootas — Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi — read alongside Manglik (Mangal Dosha) and the strength of the 7th house.

A score of 18 or more out of 36 is traditionally considered workable, and above 24–25 is regarded as very good. But the number alone is never the whole answer — the doshas (especially Nadi and Bhakoot), their classical cancellations, the 7th house and the timing matter more than a raw total.

Nadi dosha occurs when both charts share the same Nadi (worth 8 of the 36 points) and Bhakoot dosha arises from certain 6–8, 2–12 or 9–5 rashi positions. They are the two most weighted factors — but classical astrology also lists clear exceptions and cancellations, so they should never be read as an automatic refusal.

Mangal Dosha is present when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the ascendant (and often the Moon and Venus). It is checked for both partners; when both are Manglik, or when standard cancellations apply, the dosha is considered balanced. It is one factor among several, not a verdict on its own.

No. A low Ashtakoot score is a signal to look deeper, not a refusal. Mr. Pandey weighs the doshas and their cancellations, the 7th cuspal sub-lord in KP, and the running dasha for timing. Many happy marriages have modest guna scores; the honest reading is what matters, never fear.

The 36-guna Ashtakoot score and each koota, the Nadi and Bhakoot position with their exceptions, the Manglik status of both charts, the strength and sub-lord of the 7th house in KP, and the timing of marriage through the dasha. You receive a clear, plain-language conclusion.
