Ruling Planets: The Deciding Key in KP Horary

Ruling planets are one of the most important tools in KP Horary astrology. They help the astrologer identify which planets are active at the moment of judgment.

In KP, ruling planets are generally taken from:

• the Day lord
• the Moon sign lord
• the Moon star lord
• the Lagna sign lord
• the Lagna star lord

How ruling planets are used

Ruling planets are used to:

• understand the nature of the question
• select the strongest significators
• reject weak or misleading planets
• choose the correct dasha–bhukti period
• confirm timing through transit

A ruling planet should not be accepted blindly. KP warns that if a ruling planet is deposited in the constellation or sub of a retrograde planet, it should be rejected or treated carefully.

A simple way to see it

If the same planets appear again and again — as ruling planets, as significators, as dasha lords, and as transit triggers — the event becomes stronger. If the ruling planets do not support the relevant houses, the astrologer must be cautious.
