How Going Abroad Is Judged in Astrology

How foreign travel, visa, passport and settlement are judged in Vedic and KP astrology — houses 3, 9 and 12, the role of the 11th house, and the 12th cusp sub-lord.

Foreign travel is one of the most common questions in astrology. But travel, visa, foreign job, foreign education, and permanent settlement are not the same question. Each has a different formula.

The Vedic method

In Vedic Astrology, foreign travel is judged from:

  • 3rd house — movement, short travel, documents
  • 9th house — long-distance travel, higher education, fortune
  • 12th house — foreign residence, distance from the homeland
  • 4th house — homeland and residence
  • 7th house — foreign contacts and business
  • Rahu — foreign elements, unusual places, migration
  • Moon — movement and change
  • Dasha and transit — timing

If the 4th house is stronger, the person may remain connected to the homeland. If the 9th and 12th are stronger, foreign movement becomes likely.

The KP method

KP uses houses 3, 9, and 12 for overseas travel. In a KP horary example, houses 3, 9, and 12 are judged for going overseas, and the 12th cusp sub-lord is checked to decide whether foreign life is promised.

KP also gives different formulas for passport and settlement. For a passport, the 11th cusp sub-lord should connect with the significators of 3, 9, and 11. For going overseas, the 11th cusp sub-lord should connect with the significators of 3, 9, and 12.

Common questions and the approach

Will I go abroad?

Vedic: Check the 3rd, 9th, and 12th houses, Rahu, Moon, and the dasha. KP: The 12th cusp sub-lord should signify 3, 9, and 12.

Will I get a visa?

Vedic: Check the 9th (long travel), 12th (foreign stay), 11th (approval), and 3rd (documents). KP: Use 3, 9, 11, and 12. The 11th house must support fulfilment.

Will I get a passport?

Vedic: Check the 3rd (documents), 9th (long travel), and 11th (approval). KP: The 11th cusp sub-lord should connect with 3, 9, and 11.

Will I settle abroad?

Vedic: A strong 12th house, Rahu, a strong 9th house, and weak 4th-house attachment may show foreign settlement. KP: The 12th house must be strong for foreign residence, and the 11th must support fulfilment. If the 4th dominates, a homeland connection remains strong.

Should I live in India or abroad?

Vedic: Compare the 4th house (homeland) with the 9th/12th (foreign residence). KP: Compare the 4th and 12th cusps. If 4 and 11 dominate, the homeland gives comfort; if 3, 9, 12 and 11 dominate, foreign residence becomes stronger.

Under the guidance of R P Pandey, these articles are meant to help readers understand the logic of astrology — so they can approach their questions with clarity, patience, and the right direction.

Important note. Astrology should be studied as a system of guidance and timing. A responsible astrologer first examines whether the event is promised; timing is given only after the promise is seen. For health, legal, financial, or medical matters, astrology should be used as supportive guidance and not as a replacement for qualified professional advice.
